Another Empty Nest Benefit

So here it is, President’s Day. Most other years I would be on vacation with my family- during one of the most expensive weeks to travel. Blackout dates definitely apply and airports are crowded as families make their way to their week-long vacation. Instead, I sat behind my desk today- which was very undisturbed by the way- because all of my clients were on vacation- and accumulated holiday time that can be used at a later date.

I am looking forward to taking one of my few vacations (but I hope there will be many more), that are not driven by school timing. That is another great benefit of the empty nest- I can vacation on my own terms- not the schedule of the millions of school children!

Look forward to hearing about that vacation when you take it. It will be interesting to see how different it feels without the old constraints.

A newly ’emancipated’ mom here, having just embarked on solo traveling, I can say it’s a weird sensation.

I feel awkward knowing my schedule is my schedule and that I have no constraints.

It will take time to adjust, but adjust I will…lol.

It is hard to make those mental switches. I remember the first time I traveled solo and how it felt to not have to micro manage my family every time I left the house (use the bathroom, get your coat, do you have your ____?). It feels like one of your limbs is missing. Fortunately, a few deep breaths later and I felt liberated and ready for adventure! Enjoy your emancipation days!
